Hi Mr. Peery,
Just wanted to drop you a note about the Tazwell Co VA Enslavement data page.
It is a very interesting and useful page. I am hosting a page on Abbeville
Co SC Enslavement Data. I have a question / comment / suggestion.
In a few places you mention "free slaves" which is an oxymoron. On various
1850 or 1860 SC documents I have noted that the population of free non-whites
is referred to as "free colored." As an African American researcher I would
suggest that you change "free slaves" to "free colored" or "free Black" or
"free African." I personally use free African as they may have been free
but did not have the same rights of citizenship as a European American of
the time.
