MAGAZINES

  1. The Peery Genealogy
Data obtained by Edwin Howe Peery and Joseph Stras Peery, arranged by Miss Annie Lynch; The Utah Genealogical and Historical Magazine , Volumes VIII-1917, IX-1918, X-1919 (Salt Lake City, Utah: The Deseret News Press, 1917-1919), with Indices.

The largest collection of organized Peery genealogy known to that time and may be still. Independent research done by the two compilers was done over many years. Both EHP (Columbian University '18xx [now George Washington]) and JSP (Yale University '1895) were attorneys. Edwin Howe Peery [1856-19xx] of Denver, Colorado, turned over his entire collection of 3,600 names, gathered over fourteen years, to Joseph Stras Peery [1868-1946] of Salt Lake City, who independently had extensive Peery family records, collected from his youth. Both are descendants of James Peery #1. Annie Lynch combined and arranged the data in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Considering the extensive collection of information from many sources, it can be expected that some errors or omissions will be found in this huge collection. Nevertheless, it is based upon reliable efforts of dedicated persons who have made it possible for "The Peery Genealogy" to be published.

  2. The Confederate Officer and 'That Mormon Girl'
A Nineteenth Century Romance" (1852-1862), by William G. Hartley, The Ensign magazine, April 1982, pp. 52-54 (Salt Lake City, Utah: The Deseret New Press, 1982).

Relates their backgrounds, her families conversion to the LDS Church (Mormon), and their marriage. Tells of David's efforts to disclaim Nancy's religion, events during their loving marriage; their children. DHPs conversion to the LDS faith after Nancy's death.

Emigration from Virginia to Utah in 1863-64 with survivors of his wife's family, following six family deaths within an eighteen month period during the Civil War, mostly of typhoid fever. Remarriage to Nancy's sister, Elizabeth Letitia Higginbotham Peery, and settlement in Ogden. Utah. DHPs leadership talents led him to prominence in business, civic and religious positions.
