COMMENTARY

JANUARY 1998
- PUBLISHING
Publishing a Newsletter is a project that requires a dedicated editor,
something I write about from time to time. The "Peery Cousins Newsletter
Online" has such an Editor/Publisher who took over on January 2, 1998.
He is Joseph R. Phelan. I am going to do what I can to feed him content
and arouse the interest of others to do the same. It occurred to me,
however, that a crew of reporters would enable him and his Associate
Editor, Penny Boyer, produce Newsletters that would be more interesting
than ever, when real life stories of genealogical and family history
searches have brought positive results.
There are those among us who like to write. The problem often is having a
forum in which to share the prose. Appropriate material for Newsletters
is always in demand by editors. Submit something to them and it will
receive attention, whether they use it or not. Remember, APPROPRIATE, is
the key word. And Editors are the ones to make that judgment.
Sound good? Too Tough? Here's something to consider. What teacher do you
remember the most from grade (aka grammer) school? The one who was tough
on you; made you learn something; whose name you will never forget; or
one of the mass of others whom you cannot even recall what they look like?
Something to think about, isn't it? As I say, if you like to write and
need a forum with an Editor who aims high, perhaps you would enjoy working
as one of the team producing the PCO Newsletter. Remember, however, this
is all voluntary. You have to like doing it. Otherwise, its no fun. And
that won't work.

- NEW YEAR 1998
From January 1995 through December 1997, I have served as Editor/Publisher
of the "Peery Cousins Newsletter Online." In February 1996, I started up
This Web site, the "Peery Family History Home Page." In December 1996, I
announced "PEERY-L" mailing list, which was dormant for most of 1997,
until recent months when it was added, with internal links, to this Home
Page. I will continued to be Editor/Publisher of the Web page and mailing
list. As of January 2, 1998, however, the newsletter has a new
Editor/Publisher. Joseph R. Phelan has volunteered to accept that
responsibility. He will be assisted by Penny L. Boyer, Assistant Editor
of the newsletter. She began serving in that position in early 1997.
I will be able to spend more time with development of this Web site. As
to how PEERY-L will be adjusted as a result of these changes has yet to be
determined. I do intend to maintain it, however, for I believe it has a
place in the processing of queries and information flow about Peerys and
allied/related families. Those wishing to submit information for this Web
site and PEERY-L may do so to Editor -Peery Family History Home
Page. This e-mail address is shown at the bottom of sub-pages
throughout this Web site, the same as shown below.
