Many years ago the name Peery Family History was created for use in the
gathering and sharing of information on PEERY and related/allied
lines.
It was expanded on Sep 1, 1994, with Peery Cousins Online, a membership
group using e-mail on the Internet. To coordinate communications among
members, Peery Cousins Newsletter Online, a bi-weekly publication, was
begun. It was first distributed to PCO members over the Internet on
Jan 1, 1995. That led to a major increase in PCO membership and e-mail
queries. Success was gratifying and the fun hobby continued to expand.
On Feb 19, 1996, the Peery Family History Home Page was placed on
the World Wide Web. This led to a somewhat explosive growth in PCO
as search engines enabled people to find the site. Site development,
including adding more content, made it more informative and useful.
Managing all these activities mostly by me, became overwhelming as
growth continued. Something had to be done to limit the demands on
my
time. That resulted in my creating and introducing PEERY-L
(dash).
The
purpose was to place the increased load of incoming e-mail in a moderated,
but unedited mailing list, to replace the Newsletter, which required
extensive editing.
PEERY-L (dash) was announced on the Internet in 1997. Gradually,
people
began to subscribe, enabling me to create a PEERY-L (dash) distribution
list.
That is ongoing. There never has been a broadcast of e-mail
messages
on PEERY-L (dash), however, because of time demands in the other areas
mentioned. Then volunteers came forth, offering to carry on the Newsletter
in the style and quality that had been established, beginning January 1,
1998.
On July 1, 1998, a renewed interest in activating PEERY-L (dash) was
triggered by new subscribers. A new Web page for PEERY-L (dash)
was created, opened and linked on July 6, 1998. It was to be
gradually
expanded over time. The introduction and
links to related
key sites were
the beginning.
On March 17, 1999, a semi-automated, moderated
PEERY.L (dot) Mailing
List was created on ListBot,
allowing for much improved maintenance and
handling of e-mail messages, including archives. Subscribers to PEERY-L
(dash) were invited to subscribe to PEERY.L (dot). ListBot requires
individual subscriptions to avoid anyone being placed on the list without
permission.
If you care to share information with PEERY.L (dot) subscribers, just send
your e-mail to PEERY.L@ListBot.com for processing. To
share in the
exchange of information, however, you must subscribe.
