A Fallen Angel

By Mark Young

A world champion gymnast.
In Indianapolis Kim Zmeskal proved her soul
And again demonstrated her dominance in Paris.
These performances placed her in a demanding role.

Kim was the overall favorite for gold.
A slight error caused her fall from grace,
But this story has already been told.
Now her task was to save-face.

During the summer at the Olympics in Barcelona, Spain
You felt the bitter cold of the November rain.
In your heart hold this true:
America still loves you.

Note: Dedicated to Kim Zmeskal, the American Olympic Women's
Team Captain (1992). Published by the National Library
