Sound Learning

Utah Alpha stresses the importance of sound learning. Our J. Willard Marriot Scholarship winner, Michael Voss '97, received $2000 towards his educational expenses and will be an Outward Bound leader in Costa Rica following his graduation. This year's winner, Seamus Barry '98 (pictured right), received the same scholarship for his role as not only Vice-President in the house but also for his active role on campus and 3.5 GPA.

Our Scholarship Chairmen over the past two years, Kurt Ruthe '98(pictured left) and Scott Nosker '99(pictured right), have outlined and implemented a scholarship program to lead Utah Alpha to the top of Fraternities for grades. With mandatory study table hours for those brothers who fail to make grades, we do not come down on them but encourage them to improve. If scholarship continues to be a problem for some brothers, then we begin to limit the priveleges of being a member until they can improve themselves scholastically. At Utah Alpha, we know that the reason that we are all at the University of Utah is to learn, but to have a good time doing it is part of the process.
