I’m quite happy with how my final web page turned out. Of course, I wish that I could have spent some more time on it and linked everything, just for the sake of it. However, I like the look of it, even though it’s simplistic. I’m certainly no magician of web creation, but doing this web site was much easier for me than doing my portfolio web site and it went a lot faster.
First of all, I realize the idea was to do a pet emporium. That whole notion overwhelmed me a little and so did the idea of being in a group. I decided that I wanted to work on this on my own I realize the importance of working with groups as far as staying within time constraints, but I really wanted to hack this one out myself. As I said, the emporium idea was overwhelming because the possibilities of what to include are endless and I thought that I might get carried away with that idea. So, I opted to go with an online dog store Molly’s Dog House, to be exact. That way I could focus on just one idea.
Originally, I was going to do all of the illustrations myself on illustrator, but after doing my original logo (which took a lot longer than expected setting my initial productions back a little) I decided to simplify that idea as well and use pictures that were readily available to me. Besides, if I were to create this as a real web site for real customers I would want to show them actual pictures of what they were really getting.
I wasn’t really inspired by anything but trying to use the most simplistic design while still fulfilling all of the requirements of the assignment. I used large text graphics for links and didn’t really put any fillers in anywhere in any of the pages. I suppose if I were to continue with the site I would put in tricks and tips, tip of the day, visit a veterinarian near you, etc. But, I think that I included the most basic and important information for each area of my web site.
As far as design, it was a simplistic table design with some graphics and colorful links. I chose different colors for the customer pages, employee pages and the reseller pages so that the users could distinguish between them. I tried to use fun but not overbearing colors for the pages. The style reminds me of a kids book, I guess as simple as it gets, but I think that that’s very important. I don’t think that there was any other information that I needed to include.
If I were to do this assignment again, I think that I would take a little more time choosing the graphics and cleaning up my text links a little. As I said above I would also make all of the links work for the hell of it. I’m actually pretty happy with the simplicity of how it turned out I think that it’s an easily navigated site and it gets its message across nicely.
