Beginning Video Production

I can be reached at  534-1158 , noon to 5 pm. M, W, and F, and 10 am to 2pm on T & Th. 

Class meets every Wednesday evening at 7:15 pm until 10:15 pm, in The Auditorium of the Salt Lake Art Center,  you may have to enter through the north doors by the Film & Video Center. Wednesday, November 26 (Thanksgiving)  there will be no class. You Final Project will be due Wednesday, December 10 and there will be a small written exam on December 3rd. 

This is an introductory course in video art.   A hands on approach to the  fundamentals of videography, from an artist perspective, exploring a wide range of creative and technical possibilities of the video camera and non-linear editing equipment-(Macintosh computers in this class).   There will be weekly assignments (projects),  several quizzes on the films/videos, or  artists,  or other information on hand outs and the class web site, and a Final project.  Students are expected to spend 10 to 15 hours outside of class each week working on assignments.  This is a hands on class, you learn by doing. There will be demonstrations every week.  There will also be a web link for this class at www.ufvc.org click on the Art 3730 Home Page link or go dirctly to the class web page at http://www.cc.utah.edu/~klm6/3730/3730.html.  The assignments and hand outs will be posted (hopefully). 

There is no textbook for this class.

These are the Rules.
  1. Come to class every week! I take roll. Turn your assignments in on time.
  2. Stay within the limitations on each assignment.
  3. Work turned in should be on dvd or on tape--you will be give specifics on each assignment.
  4. Label tapes/disks clearly on the spine of the box and on the spine of the cassette or on the disk and on spine of case with: 1.YOUR NAME  2. ASSIGNMENT NUMBER 3. ASSIGNMENT NAME 4. TITLE (if it has a title).
  5. Do not loose or erase your source tapes.  You may need them later in the semester.
  6. Ask questions at any time.
  7. This is an ART CLASS!  Be creative!
Equipment Use and Access Rules
  1. First come, first serve for scheduling.
  2. Equipment can be checked out from the Utah Film & Video Center , 20 South West Temple in the Salt Lake Art Center next to Abravenel Hall.
  3. Call 534-1158 during office hours to schedule equipment M,W, F noon to 5pm T, TH 10am to 2 pm.
  4. If you can't make a scheduled time call (when we get a phone) so someone else can use equipment.
  5. Return everything you take (cords, batteries lens cap, etc.) You will sign out for  equipment, so make sure you do not sign out for anything that you aren't taking.
  6. Return everything when you are scheduled to return it, remember someone else may be waiting to us it. If you are late you will be charged UFVC daily rental rates (fined) and may loose your equipment access privileges. All fines must be cleared by December 10 or you will be given an incomplete!
  7.  If something isn't working correctly tell us so we can fix it.
  8. All batteries must be drained and fully recharged when returned.
