Assignment #5
 COUNTDOWN LEADER
Using the " Color_Countdown_Leader" file on the server in my Public folder as a time template, create your own countdown leader. (It is also the movie embedded in this page, except this web movie is only 320X240 in dimensions)   Use your camcorder, and FCExpress (or the editing software you are using) and Photoshop only.

Your Structure:
1. Start with 5 seconds of silent black. Superimpose your name, and the words "Countdown Leader" inside the "video safe" area of the frame for the first 3 seconds of this black.  That will leave 2 seconds of silent black before your first image and sound.
2. Two frames of "Picture Start", you need to shoot a image for this.  The words "Picture Start" need to be  incorporated in this shot some how, you may use the text titler.
3. There are five one-second segments (8 to 3) that can consist of one shot or multiple shots.  Make sure each segment uses the number and demonstrate the march of time clearly.
4. Then put two to four frames of the number two.  This still should have an image and the number and a sound (an audio que that the countdown will end in 2 seconds).  You decide how many frames you need for us to clearly see it (this will depend on the images in the segment for the number 3).
5. The frames of 2 are followed by two seconds of silent black minus the number of frame of the number 2 you used.  The number 2 and this black need to ad up to exactly 60 frames.  During the last two frames of the black put a projectionist mark (ring) in the upper right had corner with you name in the center of the ring.
6. Your countdown may include audio if it is relevant.  It must include an audio que in the number 2.
7. Leave no remnants of the original 'Color_Countdown_Leader' file (sound or picture).  You need to replace everything with your footage, mix, and text work.

Remember that Time is the structure and the subject
There are six one-second segments (8 to 3) that can consist of one shot or multiple shots.
There are also two stills: 1- "Picture This" at the start and 2-The Number "2".
Create eight different clips or sequences of clips--a different idea/scene/sequence for each number or still.  This footage can be edited together (it can be more than just one shot per number).
Make each second demonstrate the passage of time.
At the same time think about the whole countdown.  Each second needs to relate to the previous second in the flow of time.

Part A  You need to present your plan to the class next week in person.  Bring images, test sequences (movies or project files and source material), to support your plan.  This is worth 50% of your grade.
Due Next Week:  Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Part B You finished countdown leader.  Drop a DV-NTSC (720x480, 29.97 fps video, 16bit, stereo,  48kHz audio) movie in my drop box labeled "'YourName' 5 CountdownLeader.mov" and embed a 320x240 movie in a web page labeled Assignment # 5 Countdown Leader.  Make the move scale to 1.5x. Remember no space or symbols in you web movie or page names.
Due: Tuesday March 25, 2008
That's after Spring Break.
(That's two weeks without counting Spring Break to make a 13 second piece)
