(1998-2003)
When astronaut John Crichton was accidentally shot through a wormhole, he didn't just end up on the other side of the galaxy he ended up stuck in the middle of a space battle. Three prisoners D'Argo, a Luxan warrior framed for the murder of his Sebacean wife; Zhaan, a Delvian priestess jailed for the brutal murder of her lover; and Rygel, a deposed monarch of the Hynerian Empire out for revenge against the cousin who betrayed him and took his throne were escaping their confinement aboard a living ship named Moya. Officer Aeryn Sun, a loyal Peacekeeper commando pilot, was among those trying to stop them. By the end of the day, the prisoners were free, Aeryn had been exiled from her people, and Crichton was a fugitive. These strangers were forced to work together to survive. Aeryn's former commanding officer, Captain Bialar Crais, hunted them through the dangerous Uncharted Territories. Things grew more difficult when Moya unexpectedly became pregnant. The arrival of Chiana, a Nebari runaway, brought even more complications. (Thanks to Scifi.com for the overview)
Cast of characters:
John Crichton -- Our little lost astronaut. Though he's spent most of the course of the show trying to find his way home, he's recently decided that he has other priorities. Madly in love with Aeryn.
Aeryn Sun -- A former Peacekeeper soldier who's spent the last three years having her horizons forcibly expanded. Madly in love with John, but often refuses to show it.
D'Argo -- Luxan warrior and Chricton's best friend. Has his own demons to settle.
Chiana -- A young, sexy, street-smart Nebari on the run from her own people. She and D'Argo were once in a relationship.
Rygel -- Small, loud and greedy, he still thinks he's the king he once was.
Pilot -- Moya's symbiote/control center, generally the self-sacrificing father figure of the crew.
Moya -- The living ship (Leviathan) they all ride on. Completely sentient, but talks only to Pilot.
No longer on show, but in fics:
Jool -- A student rescued by Crichton. Very book smart, but has little in the way of practical experience.
Zhaan -- A high-level Delvian priestess. Currently dead, but she's not about to let that stop her.
Crais -- Former Peacekeeper and captain of Talyn, bonded to him in much the same way Pilot and Moya are.. Generally crabby, partly because he has a thing for Aeryn.
Talyn -- Moya's son. A Leviathan with offensive capabilities.
Necessary Spoilers:
Early in season 3 John Chricton was duplicated by an alien creature, and Aeryn and Crais flew off with one version of him in Talyn while everyone else flew off with the other version in Moya. During the separation, Aeryn and the John she was with finally started a relationship, which ended abruptly when that John died of radiation poisoning while once again trying to save the universe. After Aeryn spends some time grieving on a planet of the dead, Talyn and Moya finally reunite. This is where my stories begin, replacing the episode Fractures and anything afterward.
