Experience: After getting kicked out of BYU, Grossmont College, and San Diego State, I finally was able to barter for a degree in Zoology at Southern Utah University (1971). I then picked up a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology and a teaching certificate at Utah State (1973). I taught for 2 years at Murtaugh High School in Idaho where I was the Football Coach, J.V. Basketball Coach, and the Track Coach and in addition to teaching health and math. In 1976, I completed a Ph.D. here at Utah and took my first University teaching position at the University of Kentucky. After four years of thouroughbreds, I hitched up with some cowboys at Texas A&M University for five years. After that, I came back to Utah and served as chair for four years.

 

Experience: B.S.in Pharmacy from Albany College of Pharmacy, Union University, Albany, NY.Quality Control Chemist for Winthrop Labs, div. of Sterling Drug, Rensselaer, NY. Have lived in the Columbus, OH area and Naperville, IL before moving to Utah in 1986. I am an associate member of the Assistance League of Salt Lake City, a philanthropic organization. Before going to work at the Bookstore, I worked in their thrift shop which is their largest fund raising project. The League's largest philanthropic program is Operation School Bell which provides new clothes to children in need. The project works with school districts in the Salt Lake Valley and distributes clothes to as many as 4000 children in the school year.One of their other projects ia a blood pressure clinic held once a month in both Crossroads and Cottonwood Malls.

Help Offered: My forte is resiliency and resilience. I am currently focusing most heavily on the applications of second and third wave resilience in corporate and school settings. I am currently visiting with several companies to collect data on the impact of resilience training. Four of my doctoral students are doing resilience studies.

 

Help Offered: Encouragement and moral support! My current professional expertise is the textbook buying process and working with publishers in that process, if that helps anyone.

Help Wanted: Each year, we have a resiliency inquiry group that meets on occasion. I am willing and open to doing that again. Anyone doing research in resiliency is welcome to study some of the poputations I am working with.

FYI: I sometimes commute to work on my Honda Nighthawk 750 motorcycle.

 

FYI: I once went down into a Gilsonite mine in Bonanza, Utah, south of Vernal. This is the only place in the world (known so far) where Gilsonite is found.Gilsonite is used as an additive in inks and asphalt.
