FACULTY

Jerry Salvador--Director of Summer Language Program
    Jerry Salvador has his Bachelor's Degree in English and Spanish from the University of Victoria. In addition, Jerry has his Diploma in Education from the University of Victoria. Jerry also has completed his Masters of Arts Degree from the University o f British Columbia. In Spain, he taught English as a Second Language at Academia Cruz in Madrid. In Canada, he has taught at St. Michael's University School and the University of Victoria. Presently he is a full-time faculty member at Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific in the International Baccalaureate. In addition, Jerry is Examiner Responsible for the International Baccalaureate.

Geoffrey Tindyebwa--English A
    Geoffrey Turyamubona Tindyebwa obtained his academic and professional qualifications from Makerere University in Uganda. He taught in several public and private schools in East Africa before joining St. Mary's School in Nairobi where he was the IB Co-ordinator   and Head of English for nearly ten years. He was also the Chief Examiner for Literature in Kenya. Geoffrey was the International Baccalaureate Organization representative for Eastern and Central Africa and led several workshops on the IB and English A. He is currently acting as Universities Advisor at Pearson College. Geoffrey is responsible for the student store and the Jack Matthews Humanitarian Day. He and his wife, Lilian, are Housefellows in East House, where they live with their three daughters.

Peter Smith--English B Higher
    Peter Smith is the head ESL teacher at Brentwood College in Victoria. He is fluent in Mandarin. His existential philosophy towards learning is extremely beneficial to his students.

Andrew Sewell--English B Standard
     Andrew Sewell studied Philosophy, Classics and Literature at the Univerity of Victoria,
graduating in 1990 with an honours BA in Philosophy. After teaching English as a Second Language
in Japan and Thailand, he returned to Victoria and completed a Bachelor of Education (1995). For
the last several years, Andrew has been dividing his time between teaching in the public school
system, working in the Philosophy Department at the University of Victoria, and instructing First Aid
with the Red Cross. He will be working with other faculty to offer First Aid training and kayaking
instruction to students.

Christina A. Brown--Creative Activities
    Christina is a graduate of Pearson College and received her International Baccalaureate Diploma. She obtained her B.F.A. from the University of Victoria and is studying her Masters of Architecture at the University of Manitoba. Christina has exhibited her art work in Canada and the US.  Christina received a grant sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (C.I.D.A.) to participate in the Sustainable Development Placement Program in Costa Rica where she was in charge of art activities.
    Christina also has a Sailing Skipper Certificate, a Diving PADI Certificate, a Certificate of Proficiency in Radio (Marine Radio Operator), Red Cross -Emergency First Aid, C.P.R. Level B.C.L.S. "A", and St. John's Ambulance -Level C

Graham Brown--Physical Activities
    Graham is a graduate of the University of Victoria Psychology Department. He is working on his Ph.D.. in Environment and Behavioral Studies at the University of Utah. Graham has tutored ESL at the Canadian International College in Nelson, BC. Graham worked in Shuzenji, Japan, and offered private tutoring in English.
    Graham has coached several levels of baseball, hockey, and curling. He has received instructor's certificates in curling, baseball, and weight lifting.  He has received several awards of excellence in soccer, hockey, baseball, golf, and curling.  While working in Japan, Graham played baseball in a Japanese semi-professional league.

Christian Blondeau--Sea Activities and Diving Instructor
    Christian Blondeau joined Pearson College in 1995 as part-time diving instructor after more than five years' experience teaching divers in local waters, from Saanich Inlet to Race Rocks to Port Renfrew. He has a certificate in First Aid Training from St. John Ambulance, which together with previous Naval Officer Training with the Canadian Armed Forces, provide him with both the safety and discipline initiative necessary for safe seafaring activities.

Catrin Brown--Wilderness Program
Catrin Brown was born in Wales, received her B.Sc. in Bio-chemistry from Bristol University and her Teaching Diploma from Oxford. She taught for four years in England and nine years in
international Schools in Switzerland with a one-year exchange in 1990 to Lakefield College School in Ontario. Catrin teaches Chemistry and Biology. She coordinates the Wilderness Program at
Pearson and is responsible for many Expeditions.

Andrea Salvador--First Aid and Kayaking Instructor
Andrea is a graduate of Pearson College (1996). Andrea is currently studying at the University of Victoria. She is a qualified St. John's Ambulance First Aid Certificate Trainer.

Megan Dombrowski--Drama
Another graduate of a world college- Megan received her international baccalaureate from the UWC Nordic College in Norway. She is currently studying political science at Concordia University in Quebec. Megan is very involved with local theatre and has performed internationally.

Michelle Bridgett--Choir, Drama, Diving
Michelle Bridgett was born in Ontario and was brought up in England. She obtained a B.Mus. from the University of Birmingham, and also completed her P.G.C.E. teaching certificate there. She has
also completed post graduate work in Educational Management with Keele University. Michelle
has taught at high school level in England for eight years before joining Pearson College and she plays the flute and the saxophone. As well as conducting the College Choir and Singers, Michelle instructs
on the Diving Program and teaches Music and Maths Studies.


LECTURERS

Arthur Brendon--Art, Ceramics, Photography
    Art Brendon obtained his Arts Diploma at the Kootenay School of Art in Nelson, British Columbia. He then traveled, worked and studied painting, pottery and sculpture in London, England before moving to Victoria in 1975 to work as a studio potter. His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, and in Japan. Art has taught Ceramics at Pearson College since 1982 and has responsibility for the full Art Program at the College. Art is also involved with Photography, the College Yearbook, the Social Service Program (Special Needs Recreation) and co-ordination of the Alpha Fine Arts Program. For the Summer Program, Art offers Pottery instruction and lectures on Indigenous Canadian Art.

Tanis Doe--Advocacy
    Dr. Tanis Doe is involved in many community programs. She is interested in the role of advocacy in the community, fostering many action groups in Victoria. Tanis teaches American Sign Language at Pearson College and runs a youth group program on campus.

Eileen Dombrowski--Theory of Knowledge, English A
    Eileen Dombrowski, a Canadian from Vancouver Island, holds a B.A. (Honours English) from the University of Victoria and an M.A. in English from the University of London, England. She taught at both secondary school and university level before joining the faculty of Pearson College in 1984 to teach English literature. With Eileen’s background in Theory of Knowledge, she discusses the role of modern technology on society.

Gary Fletcher--Biology, Environmental Systems, Coast Watch
    Gary Fletcher obtained a B.A. and an M.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan. After teaching Biology in that province, he taught for four years at the United Nations International School in New York and came to Pearson College in 1976. He teaches Biology and the Environmental Systems (Marine Option) course. Gary is responsible for the Coast Watch Program at the College and, with a group of students, is continuing to develop the College's site on the World Wide Web. For the program Gary takes student s out to Race Rocks and examines the divergent marine life and ecosystems of the area.

Peter Gardner--Economics
    Peter Gardner was born in India and educated in Victoria with a B.A. from the University of Victoria, and an M.A. (Trade and Finance) from Queen's University. He worked for three years in the financial markets in Toronto and Vancouver and then returned to his studies at the University of British Columbia to complete a Ph.D. in Resource Conservation and Economic Development. After teaching at the University of Calgary and the University of Prince Edward Island for seven years, he joined the British Columbia Government where he worked in Resource Management and Community Economic Development. In addition to teaching Economics and Math Studies, Peter is involved with the Coast Watch Program, Special Needs Music and inter-faith activities on campus.

Jean Godin--Physics, Astronomy
    Jean Godin obtained his academic and professional qualifications in the Province of Quebec before teaching Physics at the Université de Sherbrooke and CEGEP Bois-de-Boulogne in Montreal. Prior to joining the faculty at Pearson College in 1974, he was seconded for two years by the Quebec Government to the United World College of the Atlantic. Over the years at Pearson College, he has participated in most aspects of College life, including teaching physics, cliff rescue, Director of Studies, Director of Services and Activities, Housefellow and as Acting Director.
    Jean is responsible for the upkeep of our Astronomical Observatory and our Astronomy Program, including the Social Service aspect, Astronomy with the Disabled. Jean and his wife, Hélène, who co- ordinates our Host Family Program, live on campus. Jean gives tours of the Pearson Observatory and students can observe the skies. Jean also offers a general slide presentation on the stars and galaxies.

Augustine (Ruse) Rusekampunzi
Ruse, as he is known, was born in Rwanda and brought up in Burundi. He attended Pearson College from 1977-1979 on scholarship. Ruse then went on to the University of Alberta to obtain his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics. He taught for three years in Burundi. He teaches Mathematics and is
involved with interfaith activities (church), and pool use, maintenance and swimming instruction. Ruse also coordinates the swim test which students must take before participating in waterfront activities.
