These sake sets are part of a larger series, a work in progress; they represent my most recent work. Their forms develop from studies in paper that I had done in previous years: a single sheet of paper is creased and folded in an origami-like manner; the paper forms are cast in plaster, and, from these, casting moulds are made. Each set consists of a bottle and five cups. The bottles measure an average of 7 inches or 17 centimeters in height. The sets are functional, but I am more interested in form than in function; function being mostly a theme, a reference to the world-wide ceramic tradition that, since the dawn of civilization, has consisted mostly of vessels and other utensils. I see these sake sets as studies in form.
