The Gillespie's Homepage

Hello, and welcome to David and Eden Gillespie's virtual home!

Go ahead, send us mail... You know you want to!

This page is presently being developed, so check back for updates. Here is a picture of Eden & I for your entertainment, and here is what we really look like (or did in Aug.'90). Also, NEW, NEVER BEFORE SEEN picture of Me with a BEARD.!!

We live in Bountiful, Utah. We just moved here from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I just FINISHED my Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico. Here is the FINAL (whoop!) version of my dissertation in Adobe Acrobat format. It is the first study of BRCA1 (a gene involved in familial breast cancer) in New Mexico Hispanics. For additional information on BRCA1, look at the OMIM entry. I have been investigating ethnic variability in BRCA1 gene mutations (a breast/ovarian cancer gene), as well as genes involved in type 2 diabetes. I have now joined Bill Carroll's lab in the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, where I am studying the oncogene N-myc and it's role in neuroblastoma.

A short resume for those who might be interested...

Eden teaches piano, does freelance writing and chases our 2 boys, D. J. (David Jan) and Russel, who are quite a handful, especially when holding Russel (he's over 60 lbs. now)! D. J. is currently interested in anything and everything, but the hot items are Batman and anything to do with Star Wars. He is also quite the artist.

On a more serious note, Russel has been diagnosed with epilepsy. He has Myoclonic tonic seizures involving his upper body. They are very short (1-3 seconds) but he has 100+ a day. His mental development has also been very slow. I am going to start a collection of links and files pertaining to epilepsy here to help organize my own research and possibly help others as well.
Here is the NIH site for Epilepsy information.
The Epilepsy Foundation is a great place for general information and moral support.
The American Epilepsy Society Provides a very detailed and in-depth look at Epilepsy. Great site for those looking for a more scientific spin on things.
Are you pregnant and on AEDs? you need to go to the Antiepileptic Drug Pregnancy registry.

As Russel's medical bills keep pilling up, I've decided to start the Russel Gillespie Epilepsy Fund as a way to accept donations to help pay them. You can use any major credit card, and the transaction is secure through PayPal.

We will post all the new D.J. and Russel pictures here for his grandparents' enjoyment:

I have just finished my first Palm OS application, a program for tracking the new Duty to God requirements for the Young Mens program of the Church of Jesus christ of Latter-day Saints. Any adult leader in the Young Mens program should try this out. (New- Updated version 1.3.2 released 10/10/05!) Future plans- Windows desktop utility to convert the DTG database to and from a .csv file for use with any spreadsheet-type program and grouping of requirement listings to check off the same reqirements for multiple boys. If you have other suggestions, send them.

To find more great Palm apps, be sure to visit Freewarepalm.com.

Descent was one of the best 3D games ever made. Here are some of my old links and files...

Get all the add-on levels for Descent 1 & 2 from Pooterman's ENORMOUS level archive!

For those of you that still think Descent is better than Descent 2, check out the latest updates on Sekmu's D1X project, dedicated to fixing D1 bugs and networking problems, while improving internet gameplay!

Speaking of updates, I've put together a page describing how to revitalize your old Sidewinder 3D Pro Joystick. Since M$ has decided to discontinue them, and won't even repair one if it breaks, I thought I'd figure out how to keep my joystick working like new. Read about it here.

Check out my Descent 1 levels, Test for echo and Test for echo 1.5! Also a D2 port, Test for echo 2 . Version 1.5 and 2 are smaller for 1 on 1 games... Or get my other D2 levels, PPG |)isc0 t00, PPG |)isc0 LAN_d and PPG |}isc0 , Cygnus X1 PRO, Cygnus X1 or Ultimine 2.1! All are fast-paced anarchy levels for 2-4 players.

If you are one of the old-time DOS users, you'll need pppshare, a PPP dialup program from klos. Here are some instructions for setting up and optimizing kali or kahn with pppshare.
