Major Accomplishments and Activities
Campus-Wide Help Desk. Organized and
managed the campus Help Desk. Developed a plan to start and
operate the Help Desk. Reallocated department resources to
start the Help Desk without any additional funding.
Responsible for hiring and training staff, day-to-day
operations, and long-term planning and strategies. Managed
growth from 2 to 15 employees and a merger with another help
desk.
Strategic planning. Member of the campus
Business Process Reengineering team. Served on the steering
committee that oversaw the merger of the Computer Center
with the Marriott Library. Worked on the Marriott Library
Strategic Planning committee to develop a mission statement
for the Library and a strategic plan with appropriate goals
to accomplish the plan. Worked with Human Resources
department to streamline the job posting process. Redesigned
the process, reducing the time to post a position from 5
days to 1 day.
Contract Negotiations . Negotiated contracts
and licensing terms that resulted in savings of over 3
million dollars to the University. Worked with vendors to
obtain donations of computer equipment and software to the
University that totaled $250,000 annually for 3 years.
Worked with campus colleges, departments and computer labs
to determine needs, establish standards and coordinate
purchases of computer hardware and software.
Training. Determined need for specific training
and developed course content and delivery mechanism. Created
and taught courses on basic computer use, word processing,
spreadsheets, computer graphics, Internet use, and web
authoring. Collaborated on a state-wide training program to
teach K-12 educators how to use the Internet.
Campus Events. Planned, coordinated and hosted
campus events. Hosted conferences focused on using
technology in the academic environment. Organized three
conferences, each one attracting over 500 attendees.
Arranged for the keynote speakers and presenters for over 50
workshop sessions for each conference.
Networks. Designed and implemented local and
wide area networks. Worked with customers to determine needs
and requirements for their network. Installed the network,
including wiring, hubs, routers, and servers. Trained
customers on how to use and manage their network. Developed
a plan to integrate 10 buildings into the campus
network.
