* A note on modem speeds. A 14.4 modem can transfer about 50Kb/minute (this is a very conservative estimate). A 28.8 modem transfers about 100Kb/minute. A 10 MB (10000Kb) file takes about 200 minutes (or 3hrs 20 minutes) to download on a 14.4 modem. By contrast, a direct connection to the internet (how most work sites are connected) supports transfer rates ranging from very slow to 100+Kb/second, depending on how busy the internet connection is, and can download the files in about 3 minutes.
