OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this course is to prepare the student in the knowledge and skills necessary for designing and present health education programs. At the completion of this class the student should be able to:
1. Recognize and define social trends and quality of life issues relating to health, health education and health promotion programs.
2. Assess social, legal and behavioral factors, as well as the feasibility of a program, which will result in written goal (s) and objectives relevant to a proposed health education program.
3. Utilize the administrative/resource strategies and pre-program strategies necessary to get a program implemented.
4. Analyze the learning process and learner characteristics; and thereby, be able to plan a sequence of learning opportunities best suited to accomplish the objectives and impact the target population.
5. Formulate and utilize a wide variety of program interventions, including educational strategies/techniques in order to convey a range of health information and/or achieve specified outcomes in the target population.
6. List the advantages and disadvantages of various teaching and audio-visual techniques used to enhance the learning process.
7. Describe skills/abilities needed by a health consultant, trainer, presenter, and program planner.
8. Describe the skills and abilities needed by a health educator to plan and prepare for a job/internship search and interview.
9. Design a health education/promotion program that could be implemented in a health setting using a rational planning approach.
