PURPOSE: The purpose of this class is to increase student awareness of matters pertaining to all relationships by assessing, analyzing and then making appropriate changes to improve their method of relating to themselves and others.
OBJECTIVES: Students will:
1. Attain a greater understanding of their physical and psychological health and strive to improve their overall wellness through assessing their stress, self-concept, needs, values, feelings and rational thinking techniques.
2. Discuss and attempt to arrive at a personal definition of love, and through an understanding of the characteristics of a loveable person, improve their ability to love and be loved.
3. Identify the components, stages, and different kinds of positive relationships, and come to conclusions of what can be done to improve their various relationships.
4. Discover ways to cope with various problems that occur in relationships, such as jealousy, anger, abuse, loneliness, etc.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. 4 REACTION PAPERS: Complete the inventories, activities and/or projects contained in the packet as required by course outline. Write a two-three page reaction to the activities, readings and class discussion on each underlined topic in the outline. See attached sheet for questions to which you are to respond. Papers will be due the next class period after that topic is finished.
DUE: Your reaction papers will be due one class period after discussion on that topic ends: late papers lose one point for every day late.
2. BOOK REACTION ON "MORRIE": Read Tuesdays with Morrie and write a one page reaction to the book. Reactions should include feelings, thoughts and any life changes that resulted from the book. DUE: October 30
3. 2 BOOK REPORTS: Read one book (or some chapters from one of the books equivalent to 150-200 pages) listed in the bibliography (last page in packet) under two of the four different topic headings (see below). Write a two to three page summary of the main ideas of the book and how the book impacted your life.
DUE: First book no later than Nov. 10 and second one, not later than Dec. 6.
4. PERSONAL PROJECT: Write an analysis of a personal relationship you are working on at the present or recent past. Be sure the paper is organized--use of headings (i.e. components of a relationship or stages), comprehension but concise (don't ramble), honest critical reflection.
OR RESEARCH PAPER: Pick a topic of your choice related to the class (get the instructor's approval of the topic) and develop a paper. Use APA style and cite at least 4 references/sources. DUE: December 4
GRADING:

| Participation | 45 pts |
Grading will be determined on a 90% = A, 80% = B, etc.
Participation (attendance) problems should be discussed with instructor.
If work is late, points will be lost (approximately 10% for each day late)
